A sustainable choice that lasts

We make a number of green choices in our production. Did you know, for example, that we fuel our Royal plants with wood chips from our own planing mill? Or that we reuse surplus oil from production?

Proud Eco-Lighthouse

In January 2024, we were recognised as an Eco-Lighthouse, something we are very proud of. Being certified is visible proof that we take responsibility, and a concrete tool for working continuously with environmental improvements and green transition. At Marnar Bruk, we are proud to deliver sustainable products that last.

How we focus on sustainability

Own-produced heat

To heat all our Royal plants, we burn wood chips. All the wood chips produced by our planing line are used to run our boiler plant.

From Mandal to Marnardal

When we moved from our old premises in Mandal to brand new premises in Marnardal, the factory was built so that nothing can escape into the environment. Should something go really wrong and one of our oil tanks leak, everything is collected inside the factory and we can "easily" clean it up without harming the environment around us.

Reuse of pressure impregnation

When we produce Royal, the wood undergoes a pre-process called pressure impregnation. Pressure impregnation is fairly wet and means that we get a lot of excess liquid. The wood is therefore left to run off before the Royal process. In connection with this run-off, all the liquid is collected and returned to the impregnation process. In this way, it can be used again, time after time.

100 % PEFC certified timber

We place high demands on the product we make. This means that we only use timber from 100 % PEFC-approved sawmills. PEFC is a form of documentation that enables us to trace where the timber comes from. For example, you can trace the piece of plank all the way back to where the tree itself was felled.

Short-travelled lumber

Marnar Bruk is bigger than just Marnardal. Through each sister company, we have a short distance to the actual timber. Byglandsfjord Sag, which is more than a stone's throw away, but not much further, is one of our largest suppliers of timber. So it's safe to say that the timber we use has a short travelling distance. We've actually tested this through PEFC, and it turned out that the timber used in the Hovden cabin project came from Setesdalen.

Our customers are wondering:

Technical lifetime is 60 years. Ref our EPD.

Marnar Bruk Royal is an approved ECO product. It is the only method that assesses the building product's actual environmental properties based on a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The ECO product is equivalent to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel in Breeam NOR projects (certification of sustainable buildings).

The raw material comes from our own sawmill Byglandsfjord Sag or other PEFC-approved suppliers in Norway and Sweden. Marnar Bruk AS is 100% PEFC certified.
