From estate to dream home at Ekeberg

During the building process, many questions arise, and the choice of cladding is often one of the most important - and perhaps most difficult - decisions you make. For Karoline and Nikolai, this was particularly evident when they embarked on their biggest project to date: the complete renovation of «Livets Hus».

The story started when the couple bought an estate on Ekeberg in Oslo. Until then, they had moved over eight times and renovated all the homes they had lived in, but this time the plan was to stay put. However, they couldn't resist the temptation when a «For sale» sign appeared a short distance down the street.

- The house was built in the 1980s and was in need of renovation. "We envisioned renovating it as it was, but that didn't happen," says Karoline.

By chance, Nikolai discovered the spectacular view from the roof. With a change of plan, they could have a 180-degree view of the whole of Oslo - and who wouldn't want that?

From Block Watne to funkis

Two years later, the classic Block Watne house had been transformed into a modern funky house. The process has been shared on TikTok, where the building adventure has fascinated over two million viewers.

However, the choice of style was not obvious. Karoline was afraid of ending up with a simple «bird box», but she realised that the right cladding could give the house life and character. This allowed the functional style to blend in naturally with the surroundings at Ryen Varde, with the pine forest as its nearest neighbour.

This is where the choice of cladding from Marnar Bruk became crucial. The couple wanted a facade that was both aesthetic, affordable and durable. When they discovered how Marnar Bruk's cladding greys evenly and naturally over time, they were convinced that this was the right solution for the house.

A home with soul

For the couple, the project wasn't just about building a modern house, but about creating a home with soul. The cladding from Marnar Bruk became an important part of giving the house the look they wanted - a home that both preserves the surrounding nature and stands the test of time.

Livets Hus now stands as an inspiring example of what is possible with the right planning, curiosity and an eye for detail.
